Eating Disorder Treatment and Management Plan Services: Eligibility Guide
This guide provides essential information for healthcare professionals, including:
- General practitioners (GPs) or medical practitioners in general practice
- Consultant physicians in psychiatry
- Consultant physicians in paediatrics
Eligibility for the Eating Disorder Treatment Plan
To qualify for the Eating Disorder Treatment and Management Plan, your patient must:
- Be enrolled in Medicare
- Have a diagnosis of anorexia nervosa
Alternatively, patients with other eating disorders may also be eligible if they meet the following criteria:
- Diagnosed with bulimia nervosa, binge-eating disorder, or another feeding or eating disorder
- A score of 3 or higher on the Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire (EDE-Q)
- Evidence of rapid weight loss, binge eating, or inappropriate compensatory behaviours occurring 3 or more times per week
For patients not diagnosed with anorexia nervosa, they must meet at least two of these additional indicators:
- Body weight is less than 85% of the expected weight due to an eating disorder
- At high risk of, or experiencing current medical complications from eating disorder behaviours or symptoms
- Presence of serious comorbid medical or psychological conditions significantly impacting health
- Hospitalisation for an eating disorder within the last 12 months
- Inadequate treatment response to evidence-based eating disorder treatments over the past 6 months
