45 – 49 Year Old Health Checks

With the introduction by the department of Health and Ageing of a new Medicare item focusing on the needs of patients aged 45-49 years inclusive who are at risk of developing a chronic disease (which is a disease that has been present for six months) including but not limited to asthma, cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, mental health conditions, arthritis and musculoskeletal conditions.

Risk factors include smoking, physical inactivity, poor nutrition, alcohol misuse, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, impaired glucose tolerance, family history or chronic disease etc., 45-49 year old checks have become another important tool in the prevention of chronic disease.
