Am I able to speak to my doctor on the phone?

The Doctors will take phone calls relating to you or your family’s health. If they are seeing patients when you call they may need to call you back or we may ask you to call again. If you are calling about family members please remember that we are constrained by privacy regulations when discussing patients.

Are there any situations where I may be bulk billed?

Yes, certainly. Our billing schedule is very flexible and each doctor can bulk bill if he or she feels that this is appropriate. Situations in which patients may be charged a discounted fee or bulk billed include:

  • Patients with Government concession cards (Health care card, Pension Card, Commonwealth Seniors Health Care Card).
  • Children under 16 years of age.
  • All medical services for DVA cardholders are billed directly to Veteran’s Affairs, with no out-of-pocket expenses to the veteran.
  • Please feel free to discuss your individual situation with your doctor.

Do your doctors make home visits?

Home visits are available to existing patients of the practice if the patient is unable to come to the surgery. Visits are usually attended to at the completion of the doctor’s session.

How long is a normal appointment?

A standard appointment is 15 minutes. Please ask the receptionist to book a long consultation if you need a general check-up, have multiple problems to be dealt with or need a consultation that will include counseling. If the doctor has asked you to arrange an appointment for a procedure, they will indicate how long will be needed for that procedure, and whether the treatment room needs to be booked as well.

How will you remind me about my health care (pap smears, vaccinations, etc.)?

Our practice is committed to preventative care. We may issue you with a reminder notice offering you preventative health services appropriate to your care. This will usually be a letter sent via post to your nominated address. If you do not with to be part of this system, please let us know at reception. It is important that you notify us of any change in your contact details.

What are my after hours care options?

For medical assistance out of office hours, please phone National Home Doctor Service – 13SICK – 13 74 25. This is our surgery’s after hour’s home visiting service. For emergencies phone 000. Public Hospitals available are the Sunshine Coast University Hospital – 6 Doherty Street – Birtinya or alternatively the Nambour General Hospital – Hospital Road – Nambour

Why do doctors at this Practice charge a fee for medical services and not bulk bill every service delivered to patients?

The Medicare rebate (the fee received by your doctor if he/she bulk bills a service) does not reflect the true cost of maintaining a modern medical practice and the cost of maintaining individual registration, medical indemnity cover and skills. By charging a reasonable fee your doctor is able to spend more time discussing your medical problems with you, especially if these problems are complex. We believe this improves the quality of the service provided to patients with both simple and more complicated issues. It also allows time for your doctor to discuss preventative health issues with you at greater length, with fantastic benefits for your long-term health.
