Medical Qualification Recognition
There are specific registration pathways available for internationally trained medical practitioners, which we can assist you in navigating. The different pathways depend on where you obtained your primary medical degree, and if you have completed recognised specialist training.
 
 
Specialist College Assessment
Assesses comparability against the criteria for an Australian-trained specialist in the same field:

  • Not Comparable Assessment – GPs will be required to enter into a specialist training program.
  • Fully Comparable Assessment – GPs are considered directly comparable to Australian trained GPs and require no further exams, training or supervision to obtain Fellowship. 
  • Partially Comparable Assessment – GPs will undertake either further training or supervised assessment before applying for Fellowship.

Pathways to recognition
There are specific registration pathways available for internationally trained medical practitioners, which we can assist you in navigating. The different pathways depend on where you obtained your primary medical degree, and if you have completed recognised specialist training.

  • Specialist pathway – Overseas-trained Gp’s applying for assessment of comparability to the standard of a specialist trained in General Practice.
  • Competent Authority pathway – For IMGs seeking general registration with the Board. This pathway applies to IMGs who are not eligible for the Competent Authority pathway or the Specialist pathway.
  • Standard pathway – Overseas-trained Gp’s applying for assessment of comparability to the standard of a specialist trained in General Practice.

AHPRA registration
The Australian Health Practitioners Registration Authority (AHPRA) will approve your registration, taking into consideration your college outcome and also checking you meet the required English Language standards and are able to supply ten years of Certificates of Good Standing.
 
Positions are available in the following areas:
Western Australia (in and near Perth) – DPA areas suitable for PEP specialist program.
Victoria (Melbourne and regional) – DPA areas suitable for PEP specialist program plus DPA/MM2+ suitable for FSP.
New South Wales (Sydney, Gosford, Wagga, and regional) – DPA areas suitable for PEP specialist program plus DPA/MM2+ suitable for FSP.
Queensland (Brisbane, Caboolture, Sunshine Coast) – DPA areas suitable for PEP specialist program plus DPA/MM2+ suitable for FSP.
