I can offer you:

  • A fantastic remuneration package that provides an above market lump sum purchase price.
  • GP owned and run, so I understand how to operate and improve medical practices to maximise patient case, not just the bottom line.
  • Improving existing facilities for patients and staff alike.

  • Ability to source additional doctors for sites to facilitate the expansion of services and hours.
  • Bring sound practice management skills to allow the practice to flourish.

Founder/Owner/Principal GP at Family Doctor

MBBS, FRACGP, FCPCA, DipSkinCancer, MAICD

Graduate of the University of Melbourne in 1995 (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery). Now working in General Practice, I actually started my career in Emergency Medicine. Having worked as a Senior Doctor/CMO in Emergency Medicine for over eleven years, I ultimately decided that I wanted to move on to General Practice where I could build life-long relationships with my patients. In 2010, I obtained a fellowship with the Royal College of General Practitioners. I have also obtained a further fellowship with the Cosmetic Physicians College of Australasia, a Diploma of Skin Cancer Surgery, and am a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

I founded Family Doctor in 2008 and have built a network of general practices which focus on the delivery of great patient care, improving working conditions for staff and fantastic support for general practitioners who work with us.

Frequently Asked Questions — Selling Your Medical Practice

Common questions from practice owners considering a sale. All discussions are confidential and without obligation.

How is my medical practice valued?
Practice valuation combines the last 3 years' billings, doctor mix, patient base, billing structure, lease terms, equipment, and goodwill. Family Doctor provides a direct offer without real estate agent or broker commissions, so you keep the full sale value. Most sellers find our offers are at or above market.
What happens to my staff after the sale?
Staff continuity is our priority. Existing receptionists, nurses, and practice managers are retained on their current entitlements — superannuation, leave balances, and pay rates all transfer. In most sales no staff member loses their role.
Can I continue working at the practice as a GP after selling?
Yes — and most selling GPs do. A common arrangement is to sell the practice and transition to working as a GP at the same clinic on a service agreement. You keep seeing your patients without the admin burden of practice ownership.
Will my existing patients be affected?
Patients typically notice no change. The clinic keeps the same doctors, location, opening hours, and booking system. Medicare, My Health Record, and prescription histories transfer seamlessly. We write to patients explaining the continuity of care.
How long does the sale process take?
From first confidential discussion to settlement typically takes 6–12 weeks. Due diligence runs 2–4 weeks, legal contract negotiation 2–3 weeks, and settlement is usually 30 days after signing. Expedited timelines are available if required.
Do I need to engage a broker or agent?
No. Family Doctor buys practices directly from owners. There are no agent commissions (typically 5–10% of sale price) or broker fees. You deal directly with Dr Rodney Aziz, our founder, from initial discussion through to settlement.
Will you keep my practice name and branding?
In most cases yes. Practices keep their name, logo, and local identity — Family Doctor is a network of independently branded clinics, not a single-brand rollup. Patients continue to see the clinic they know.
Is the initial discussion confidential?
Absolutely. All inquiries are treated in strict confidence. We can sign a non-disclosure agreement before sharing any financial information, and nothing is disclosed to staff, patients, or the wider market without your written approval.
What locations are you acquiring in?
We are actively acquiring GP practices across all Australian states and territories — metropolitan, regional, and rural. Our current network spans 114 clinics across VIC, NSW, QLD, WA, SA, and ACT. Contact us regardless of your location.
What if I am not sure I want to sell yet?
Many owners contact us 6–24 months before they plan to sell, just to understand what their practice is worth and the steps involved. There is no obligation — we are happy to have a no-commitment conversation and provide an indicative valuation.
