ATSI
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals live on average 10 years less than non-Indigionous Australians. The doctors at Victoria Point Surgery believe it is crucial to close this gap, and are passionate about providing holistic health services to meet the needs of our local Indigenous population. All patients who identify as indigenous will be bulk billed. Our doctors believe in the importance of indigenous health checks and ensuring that our indigenous patients are enrolled in the closing the gap program (which gives access to reduced price pharmaceuticals).
Aviation Medicals
Our Dr John Tucker is a pilot (PPL and C certificate glider pilot) who will personally conduct your medical. Dr Tucker can provide pilots with a Class 1, Class 2, and Class 3 recreational aviation medical practitioner’s certificate. For further information, click here.
Children’s Health
Our kids are the most important things in our lives, which is why many of the doctors at Victoria Point Surgery have a particular interest in children’s health.
We can help with the majority of your children’s health concerns. We offer immunisations both as part of the government schedule and optional extra vaccinations; we monitor children’s health and development; treat accidents such as cuts that need stitching, minor bangs to the head, and plastering fractures. We can talk to you about your personal concerns and stresses, as well as make referrals to other service providers and support agencies.
All children under 18 years of age are bulk billed at our practice!
Chronic Disease Management
The doctors and nurses at Victoria Point Surgery work together to manage patients with chronic diseases such as asthma, coronary heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, diabetes and renal impairment.
Patients with a chronic disease are often eligible for a care plan giving them access to subsidised allied health services.
GP Management Plans
A GP Management Plan enables a GP to plan and coordinate the health care of patients with chronic or terminal medical condition. They include patients with these conditions who require multidisciplinary, team-based care from a GP and at least two other health or care providers. A chronic medical condition is one that has been (or is likely to be) present for six months or longer, for example, asthma, cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, musculoskeletal conditions and stroke. There is no list of eligible conditions; however, the Chronic Disease Management items are designed for patients who require a structured approach, including those requiring ongoing care from a multidisciplinary team.
Eligibility for a GP Management Plan is accessed by a GP taking into account a patient’s medical condition and care needs, as well as a strict set of guidelines set out by the Department of Health. A GP Management Plan gives patients access to free or subsidised allied health services. All of the doctors at our surgery are able to access a patients eligibility for a GP Management Plan. It’s also a great way for patients to be able to get Medicare rebates for the additional services that they need.
Diabetic care
General Practitioners provide most of the medical support to people with type 2 diabetes. The doctors and nurses at Victoria Point Surgery assist patients in managing and monitoring all aspects of diabetes including monitoring:
- blood glucose
- lipids
- body weight
- blood pressure
Patients with diabetes should speak to their doctor about eligibility for a care plan.
Driver’s Health
The department of transport or your employer may require you to undergo a driver’s health assessment. The doctors at our surgery are experienced in performing these assessments. Please let our reception staff know that this is what your appointment is for as we usually require a longer appointment time.
Health Assessment
45-49-year-old Health Assessment
The practice offers an important health check for persons aged between 45-49 years. It’s a great time to give a thorough check, and potentially prevent problems before they start. The health assessment is used to identify specific risk factors for chronic disease. A health assessment at this stage of life can assist patients to make the necessary lifestyle changes to prevent or delay the onset of chronic disease. The health assessment is bulk billed. It’s a thorough check and well worthwhile.
75-year-old Annual Health Checks
This bulk billed health check is available to all patients over 75 years of age annually. The purpose of this health check is to help identify any risk factors exhibited by an elderly patient that may require further health management. In addition to assessing a person’s health status, a health assessment is used to identify a broad range of factors that influence a person’s physical, psychological and social functioning.
Mental Health Care
The doctors at Victoria Point Surgery are trained to identify patients suffering from mental health concerns. Early detection, and treatment will lead to a more positive outcome for patients in almost all cases.It is important to seek help from your GP if you are struggling with your mental health.Addressing mental health issues is not always about medications, usually multiple factors need to be addressed in several different ways. This is what holistic health is all about.Doctors at Victoria Point service can get you in touch with the right professionals to help you with your condition long term, and you may even be eligible for a Medicare mental health care plan – giving you access to free or discounted psychological services. Victoria Point Surgery also has the services of great psychologists Marchiene Van Der Veen and Mohammad Khayrolomoor.
Men’s Health
The doctors at Victoria Point Surgery understand Australian men and the health and emotional stresses they face.
We are here to assist men with any mental, emotional or physical problem they are facing. Men tend to need a little bit more help in seeking help, and following up on their health.
Our doctors understand this and are excellent at helping men address their particular health issues in an approachable and understandable way.
Pre-Employment Medicals
Our pre-employment medicals provide a baseline heath assessment for workers before they enter a role with an employer. A standard pre-employment medical includes:

- Cardiovascular
- Abdominal
- Skin
- Nervous system
- Basic musculoskeletal.

Skin Cancer Checks
In Australia 14% of adults, 24% of teenagers, and 8% of children are burnt on a typical summer weekend. And two out of three Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer before the age of 70. Having your skin regularly checked by a qualified doctor is essential. We have doctors who have additional training in skin medicine and enthusiastic to help prevent skin cancers.
Sports Medicine
Drs Patrick Chen and Sherwin Goh have a background in orthopaedics and is available at Victoria Point Surgery to treat you or your child with sporting injuries. They treat the following at the surgery:
- Carpal Tunnel Release
- Trigger Finger Release
- Fracture management (including setting a break)
- Sports injury management
Travel Medicine
It is recommended that all jetsetters make an appointment with a GP before setting off to insure all immunisations and vaccinations are up to date. Our doctors can assist you in identifying what protection will be needed for the region you are travelling, and consult you regarding the safety of drinking water, how to prevent diarrhoea ect.
We use up-to-date databases to help you with your vaccinations and individualise your vaccinations for your particular style of travel and destinations. We keep an extensive list of travel vaccinations at the surgery that immunise against:
- Hepatitis A
- Polio
- Typhoid
- Cholera
- Meningitis
- Diphtheria
Please make your appointment at least six weeks before your departure date in order to make sure you have all your vaccinations completed and working before you leave! It takes a little time to do properly, so it’s best if this is done at a dedicated appointment.
Weight Management
A number of the doctors at our surgery are passionate about helping patients achieve their weight goals, particularly in conjunction with medical conditions. Weight management is multifaceted and can involve diet, exercise, mentoring, advice, medication and accountability to name a few. If you would like help achieving your weight goals
Women’s Health
The doctors at Victoria Point Surgery are able to provide help and advice regarding the large number of both physical and emotional issues impacting women today. Some of the things our doctors can help with are fertility and contraception , breast examinations, pap smears, sexual health, menopause, osteoporosis, anxiety and depression, diabetes and blood pressure.
