General Practitioner -

Dr Jade Stuhmcke has returned to Cotton Tree Medical Centre, she will open her books to service VISITORS, NEW PATIENTS & CHILDREN. Dr Jade Stuhmcke completed her medical degree at the University of Queensland through various Brisbane hospitals, Bundaberg hospital and Gatton hospital. She then moved to the Sunshine Coast and worked in Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health services at several locations. Dr Jade obtained experience in a wide range of departments and completed a Diploma in Obstetrics during this time before transitioning into General Practice training in 2019.

She has a passion for women’s health, children's health and preventative health care. Her other interests include gardening and baking.

General Practitioner -

Dr Jonathan Last hails from North Queensland, he has been calling the Sunshine Coast home since 2010, when he started work at Nambour General Hospital. Having worked previously at Cotton Tree Plaza Medical Centre, Jonathan returned in 2018. Jonathan enjoys all aspects of General Practice. He has accomplished extended training in skin cancer medicine, child health and pregnancy care. Additionally, he has a keen interest in child health, chronic disease management, sports medicine and minor procedures. In his spare time, Jonathan is a volunteer surf life saver with Alexandra Headland Surf Life Saving Club, he enjoys being outdoors doing all kinds of exercise.

Dr Leigh Macdonald completed his medical studies at Deakin Medical School, graduating in 2011. He spent a number of years working in rural, regional and tertiary hospitals throughout Victoria and Queensland, including 12 months at Queensland Children’s Hospital.

Following an initial career direction of Orthopaedic surgery, Dr Macdonald changed to General Practice in order to achieve a better work-life balance. He maintains a strong interest in the non-medical, medical and surgical aspects of health care particularly sports medicine and musculoskeletal injuries.

Outside of medicine, Dr Macdonald enjoys spending time with his family and keeping fit and active.

We are excited to announce Dr Mai Yamanaka commences with us Monday 20th January 2025, working 3 days a week, welcoming all patients. Dr Yamanaka completed her medical degree (MD) in 2020 and has returned to the Sunshine Coast, her hometown since childhood, as a GP Registrar. She completed her post-graduate resident training at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital and has worked as a Brain Injury Rehabilitation Registrar and Orthogeriatric Rehabilitation Registrar in Brisbane and Sydney prior to commencing GP training. She has interest in all areas of general practice. To Dr Yamanaka, there is no place like home - the Sunshine Coast, and she is excited to provide care for the local community. Dr Yamanaka is fluent in Japanese and intermediate level in Korean.

Nelson completed his Bachelors of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Queensland (UQ) in 2013. Since then he has been working around the Gold Coast and Northern NSW regions. As a GP Nelson has worked at Casuarina and Mullumbimby before moving to Kingscliff.

After undertaking residency training at The Tweed Hospital, Nelson then completed three years working within Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Gold Coast University, Robina and The Tweed Hospitals. Further to this experience, Nelson is qualified to insert intrauterine devices (mirena, kyleena, copper) and Implanon. He also has extensive experience in antenatal care, which is a passion of his.

Nelson also has a keen interest in other aspects of women’s and men’s health, children/adolescent health and dermatology. Surgery is also a key interest for Nelson, and he continues to surgically assist alongside his GP work. Nelson enjoys education and has significant experience working as a Medical Educator, training the next generation of GPs.

General Practitioner -

Dr Peter Beresford Jones moved to the Sunshine Coast in early 2020. He studied medicine at Cardiff University and completed General Practice training in the UK. Having served as a GP and Medical Officer in the British Army he has worked both in the UK and abroad in a wide range of clinical fields and situations. He relocated to Australia in 2017 to serve with the ADF, initially in Darwin and more recently in Brisbane.

He retains both UK and Australian Royal College of General Practitioner qualifications. Peter enjoys all aspects of General Practice. He has a broad scope of practice and varied clinical interests. He has undertaken postgraduate work and additional training in Emergency medicine, Tropical and Travel Medicine, Sports and Exercise Medicine and Dermatology. His practice is evidence based, but holistic and strongly patient centered. He is an advocate of the shared decision making model of General Practice. Peter is married with two young daughters.

As a family they enjoy travelling, exploring the great outdoors and camping. He enjoys cooking, fitness, mountain biking, SCUBA diving and is a passionate surfer.
